Reddit is ending RSS feeds: What it means for NewsNinja

Reddit RSS feeds end on November 13, 2026. Subreddits still work in NewsNinja today. Here's how to follow them and what could change.

NewsNinja on iPad

NewsNinja lets you follow subreddits alongside your news, websites, Social networks (X, Mastodon, Bluesky), YouTube channels, and podcasts. You can read Reddit posts and comments, watch videos, browse images and GIFs, and open shared links directly in the app, without a Reddit account or login.

You choose the communities you want to follow and keep them together with your other sources. Whether you follow technology discussions, gaming news, or a favorite hobby, Reddit can be part of your daily reading without needing a separate app or account.

Reddit has now announced that it is ending support for RSS feeds. I want to explain what that means, what still works in NewsNinja, and why I cannot guarantee Reddit support indefinitely.

What Reddit announced about RSS feeds

In its September 30, 2026 infrastructure update, Reddit said it will stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026, citing large-scale scraping and automated abuse.

RSS lets readers subscribe to updates from a website or community in a feed reader. Retiring Reddit’s feeds removes that option for people who use those feeds to keep up with subreddits.

Reddit recommends Developer Platform tools for some moderation workflows, but says there is no replacement for RSS feeds outside a community you moderate.

The announcement also outlines tighter access to Old Reddit and a transition for public Data API apps and bots. These are separate changes: the RSS shutdown should not be read as an announcement that every public subreddit will require a login on November 13.

Does Reddit still work in NewsNinja?

Yes. For now, you can still follow subreddits in NewsNinja without a Reddit account. Reddit support is currently working, and you can continue adding communities and reading their posts in the app.

The announced RSS retirement is a future change. It does not mean that Reddit support has already been removed from NewsNinja, but the fact that it works today is not a guarantee that it will keep working after Reddit changes access. NewsNinja currently doesn’t use RSS to fetch reddit data, but this doesn’t guarantee it will continue working indefinitely.

How to follow a subreddit in NewsNinja

You can currently add a subreddit in either of two ways:

  1. Use Add Feed: Add the subreddit you want to follow through the app’s add-feed option.
  2. Search in Discover: Search for the community in the Discover screen, then add it to your sources.

Once added, you can browse its posts and open discussions, comments, videos, images, GIFs, and links directly in NewsNinja. No Reddit login is required.

Will NewsNinja keep supporting Reddit?

I will try to keep supporting Reddit for as long as it is possible. Following communities without an account is a useful part of NewsNinja, and I would like to preserve it.

However, access ultimately depends on Reddit. If Reddit closes off the access NewsNinja relies on, or requires an account to read the subreddits it currently makes available without one, I cannot rule out removing Reddit support from NewsNinja in the future.

I do not want to promise a permanent workaround or suggest that the app is unaffected by decisions outside my control. For now, Reddit remains supported, and you can continue following subreddits through Add Feed or Discover.

Thank you to everyone using NewsNinja and sharing feedback. I know that choosing your own sources and reading them in one place matters, and I will keep that goal in mind as Reddit’s changes take effect.
